SYNOPSIS

Ajax (27), a troubled young German of Greek origin, returns to Greece for the first time since a childhood holiday tragedy.  As he and his travel mate set out on a road trip across spectacular Greek landscapes, Ajax is confronted by funny and terrifying mythological hallucinations that give him advice about his personal problems.  A visit to his estranged uncle and a chance encounter with a refugee change Ajax forever.


Noah Saavedra to play “Ajax”


Noah Saavedra is an Austrian actor of Chilean origin. He first gained attention in the film, Egon Schiele: Death and the Maiden where his astonishing performance won him the New Faces Award, Germany and the Austrian Film Prize Romy 2017 for Best Young Actor. He has been busy ever since appearing in dozens of feature films (And Tomorrow the Entire WorldO Beautiful Night, Everything will Change, Spectre) which screen at major festivals including Berlin, Venice and Sundance, and on TV (Freud, Bauhaus) including the critically acclaimed ZDF series, Bad Banks.


Noah has been part of the prestigious Munich theater company, Residenztheater Münchens since 2019. He studied acting at the Konservatorium der Stadt Wien and later at the Hochschule für Schauspielkunst "Ernst Busch" Berlin, where he was awarded the prestigious O.E. Hasse Prize for outstanding drama school talent.  He lives in Munich.

Samuel Finzi to play “Uncle Hercules”


Samuel Finzi is one of Germany’s most acclaimed film and theater actors.  Originally from Bulgaria, he is the son of a prominent Jewish actor and a pianist. He studied at the Vitiz State Theater and Film Academy in Sofia and moved to Germany in 1989. 


He is a beloved theater actor performing in Germany's most important theater companies where he has won 10 major acting awards under directors that include Robert Wilson and Dimitar Gochev. 


While his love of the theater remains paramount, he has branched out to film and television, appearing in some 70 films and 34 television series, including in the title role of the acclaimed ZDF series Flemming. He has worked with many prominent film directors and later became known to a wider public through his comedic roles in several popular Til Schweiger movies.

Hayat Kamille to play "Suha”


Hayat is a tremendously talented dramatic and comedic Iraqi-British actress who is herself a refugee.  She was cast from among 200 actors who auditioned for this role in London, where she works in English and Arabic.


Hayat is recognizable from programs and commercials on UK and US television and theater.  Most recently, she appeared in two films by Kenneth Branagh, Death on the Nile and Murder on the Orient Express.  She has a supporting role in the feature film, Mosul, by director Matthew Michael Carnahan (World War Z, Deepwater Horizon) which premiered at the Venice Film Festival, and was in the CBS hit series, Ransom.

Christopher Læssø to play “Hilarion”


Christopher is a Danish actor based in Copenhagen.  He is best known for his unforgettable performance in the 2018 Palme d’Or Winner / Oscar-nominated film,

Christopher is a graduate of the Danish National Theater School and is known to Danish audiences for his work in dozens of films and television series, including the international hit series, The Bridge.

Yiannis Drakopoulos to play “Adonis”


Yiannis Drakopoulos is an award-winning actor from Athens where he works in Greek film, television and theater. He is best known internationally for his performance in the Sundance-nominated film, Pity, for which he won “Best Actor” at the Manarat Film Festival. 


He has appeared in 15 feature films and 10 television series, including the hit series, Your Family.  Yiannis is also very active in Greek theater where he has performed in more than 40 plays.

The Origins of Ajax is a hilarious, moving and suspenseful English-language comedy/drama road movie set in Greece.  It will have a PG-rating and is intended for international audiences of all ages.

COSTUME AND MASK DESIGN  CONCEPT:   ancient Greek theater meets the Donnie Darko evil bunny meets Jean Paul Gaultier.


Ajax’s mythological hallucinations of ancient Greek and mythological characters will be shot “Donnie Darko-style” with costumes and masks created by master designer, Thanos Vovolis. 


Thanos is a Scenographer, Costume and Masking designer, Exhibition & Performance Curator, Educator, and Independent Artistic Researcher. He is known internationally for his extraordinary designs in over 80 theater productions in Sweden, Iceland, Greece, Spain and Romania, and additionally on films and in advertising. 


Exhibitions of his works have been shown in London, Berlin, Stockholm, Gothenburg, Athens, Madrid, Merida, Sevilla, and Delphi. He teaches Scenography and Costume design and is Department Head and Program Coordinator for the Theatre Arts Department at The American College of Greece.




    
 



      




DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY Anton Klima


Anton Klima has been working as Director of Photography/Cinematographer since 1987.  He began his career as a camera assistant and operator for such DP greats as Jürgen Jürges, Gerard Vandenberg, and Dietrich Lohmann.


His work on 24 feature films, 34 television series and numerous commercials and music videos has won him 19 film prizes and awards.  Originally from Ebermannstadt, Germany, Anton worked in Los Angeles before moving to Berlin.  He has shot all over the world.
